COVID-19 –
Omicron Variant

Omicron variant (B.1.1.529 and
descendant lineages) was first
identified in South Africa in
November 2021 and has since
been detected in many other
countries around the world. It
has a large number of mutations,
many of which are in the spike
protein of the virus. While still
being studied, preliminary
evidence suggests that it may be
highly transmissible and
potentially more resistant to
some vaccines than previous
variants.

COVID-19 –
Omicron Variant

Symptoms associated with the
Omicron variant are mild
headaches for several days. Due
to its potential impact on global
public health, the Omicron
variant has been classified as a
variant of concern by the WHO
and is being closely monitored
by public health agencies and
scientists around the world.
