COVID-19
Gamma Variant

The Gamma variant (P.1 and
descendent lineages) was first
identified in Brazil in January
2021 and has a unique set of
mutations that affect the
spike protein. It is thought to
be more contagious than the
original strain and may be
able to reinfect people who
have already recovered from
COVID-19. Symptoms
associated with the Gamma
variant are similar to those of
other variants and can include
mild headaches, fever,
persistent cough, and sore
throat.
